Ambitious at the age of three, Tia began acting like a mother to her siblings. At age five, she was carrying her sister fourteen miles to and from school; even braiding her own hair. At this time, she wanted too be a doctor. As a teenager, Tia changed her mind first to nuclear medicine, then to education at Salem State College majoring in biology.
